WOW! If someone had told me 15 years ago when I was a little trouble maker in high school that I would be sitting in the living room of my house, married, surrounded by my fur babies, writing my first blog post for my business… I would have seriously laughed!
Through out high school I predominantly took art courses. I enjoyed and still enjoy painting,
sketching and photography. In Grade 12 I prepared my portfolio and decided to attend the University of Guelph for Fine Arts. The U of G was an amazing school with the most stunning historic campus and inspiring professors, but I wasn’t sure what I would do with a degree in Fine Arts. After two years in Guelph… my path changed. I decided to move back home and reevaluate what I wanted to do. After a great deal of research and meeting with a successful, inspiring Interior Designer, I decided to apply to the RCC Institute of Technology.
The next four years…. WELL they were defiantly some of the most difficult, challenging, YET rewarding years. I worked full time during the day, while completing my degree online. There were
countless late nights with our living room looking like a bomb went off as I hot glued model houses together, many early mornings before work adding the finishing touches to my renderings and lunch breaks eating while completing my sketches…to say the least almost every spare moment was spent on school work.
I miss school … I feel like you know you found what your meant to do, when you can honestly say you miss learning about it in school. I loved every aspect of completing my degree, from the history of design, studying the styles, learning about renderings, CAD drawings, colour theory, construction, the building code and the list goes on.
Seeing as how Josh is a contractor, we always had these hypothetical conversations about “one day” owning our own business together, with the perfect combination of design and renovation. So, not to sound cliché but its an amazing feeling to be able to make our dream a reality and begin our journey as L & J Design and Renovation!!!
