Small Changes That Make a Big Impact

I think when someone says, "I am working with an Interior Designer" or "We are doing renovations" all of a sudden people assume you are spending copious amounts of money on your home. When in fact, there are tonnes of ways to make small and affordable changes to your home, that still make a huge impact on the overall look of the space. 

Let's dive in to what I am referring too; 

We have actually made customized packages for our client’s specifically for their décor needs. Design doesn’t automatically mean changing the foot print of a space, knocking out walls, full house overall, it can mean working with a designer to thoughtfully and meticulously alter the look of a room using strategic décor placement. To give examples of every single change that could be made, would mean writing a book, so here are a couple examples.

I worked with one client where their space was very large, with beautiful high ceilings and they wanted to feel like the space had specific zones and add warmth to the large area.  We worked together with the use of carpets to provide visual designated areas, furniture placement (using their existing furniture just reconfiguring it within the space), we added curtains to warm up the room, library shelves with a seating area, pillows and throw blankets, two faux tree’s to accentuate the ceiling height and a few lamps. There are numerous tips and tricks that working with a designer can offer to achieve the desired look of a room, again by using creative, small aspects that provide a great overall new feel.

The next example blends small décor changes with small renovation changes. We had a client that really didn’t like the look of their bathroom, however it had recently been renovated prior to purchasing the home a few short years prior. The space was very modern, white vanity, white flooring with veining, chrome finishes. The first thing we did was paint the bathroom, by adding a warm beige to the walls it instantly softened the overall appearance of the space. We then changed out the hardware and faucet on the vanity to gold, added a gold light fixture, towel bar and toilet paper holder. All minimal renovation’s that truly transformed the space. From there we started decorating, adding a beige shower curtain, beige floor matts, greenery, candles, wooden tray for soaps and wooden shelving for décor. Again, small changes, big gains!

Whether it is changing paint colours, adding a backsplash, thoughtful layered décor items, substituting light fixtures, hardware colour changes, a new cozy rug… there are endless possibilities to altering the look of a space. Planning and having a great team with a vision to work with is key!
