Little Girl's Room...

It’s probably a combination of a few of my personal traits, slightly OCD, defiantly a perfectionist, organization freak and to top it all off an interior designer. As I mentioned in my previous post about Jax’s room, I had many years to plan it, so putting it together was a lot of fun, it was finally taking a vision that had been stored in my brain for so long and bringing it to life. For baby girl, I was stressing!

We live in a three-bedroom home, however our bedroom isn’t large enough to store all our clothes, so we have always had them in a multipurpose room with my office. We also have slanted ceilings to contend with and let’s call them make shift closets that were put in prior to us purchasing the home. A house that seemed large for just Josh and I ten years ago, suddenly is feeling very crammed and disorganized.

We have lots of ideas, taking space from our bedroom and what was the office/ clothing storage, which will be turning into the nursery, to add a walk in closet from our room. We are also in the process of adding a fenced in section for the dog, extending our front porch because it is hazardous and I fell off of it a few weeks back and finishing our basement. My brain was going in 50 different directions and as I hit my third trimester, all I want to do is nest!

Sooo…. I had to use my favourite term and PIVOT. Sometimes things don’t work out like you imagine they will and sometimes that’s really hard (especially for a hormonal pregnant woman) to change direction and move towards another solution. However, sometimes you don’t have a choice and it’s what needs to be done. The guys are very busy with client projects right now, the time to complete all these projects just isn’t there, not to mention everything costs money and with a new baby on the way, we didn’t feel it was the best time to take on more and more changes to our home.

After lot’s of what felt like agonizing feelings, this is what we decided. Josh put some drywall boards up in the basement after we spent a day organizing and cleaning it out, there is now a dry, bright, functional semi-finished space in our basement for a temporary office. Once we move all the office furniture out of the nursery, as well as the fish tank and one of the dressers, there will be lots of room to still store our clothes, but also have baby girl’s things, a crib, dresser with change table, laundry bin and so on. We are going to rework the storage that we have on the main floor, shift a few items around in our bedroom storage, bathroom and Jax’s room to make everything more organized and functional for our family.

At the end of the day, I would love to have a “perfect” space to bring baby girl home too, however she is coming home to a loving household and honestly that is the only part that matters. Plus, realistically she is never going to know the difference if there are a few extra dressers in her room, sometimes the path of least resistance is truly the one that needs to be travelled.
