Fall in here...

As I left my house today to go and visit site, I am in full denial that fall has arrived as I put on a dress and flip flops. Okay, maybe not… the dress is more because I am 9 months pregnant and nothing fits anymore and the flip flops are because I wore running shoes for the first time on the weekend and gave myself such bad blisters on my pinky toes that now I can only wear one pair of flip flops. None the less, Jax and I walked down to the waterfront of our current project, enjoyed seeing the waves come crashing into the shore line and the sun shining, then said “brrrr” and headed back to the house.

I like to decorate my house when inspiration hits, I know a lot of designers on social media will decorate ahead of time to provide inspiration for everyone, but I have to be in the moment to decorate. This year, when designers I follow starting posting, I said to Josh, I might skip fall decorating this year, I am very pregnant and just not feeling it. Josh was thrilled, that meant he didn’t have to go hunting for my fall bin of décor. Well, I think the first leaf changed colour at our house and my mind was changed, off the guys went hunting for my fall bin!

This year I didn’t go crazy, I simply added my neutral stuffed pumpkins throughout the main floor and upstairs, I added a few darker pillow cases and changed up the stems on the dining table and coffee table. This was very tamed for me, but honestly it feels nice to have touches of fall without being inundated by it. Plus, when I am ready to switch to Christmas décor, it isn’t a lot of items to switch around. My point is, it’s great to watch and draw inspiration from what others are doing, but at the end of the day you have to do what’s right for your household and that might change from year to year. Right now, a little bit goes a long way for us. The couple of pumpkins that I strategically placed bring a smile to my face, but it didn’t take hours to do. In a few years from now, if my kiddo’s are obsessed with Halloween, I will go all out with the décor in our home (hopefully it’s more Christmas they get excited about because I have LOTS of Christmas décor haha). Décor changes should be fun, not work. Although I will say no matter how much décor I do or don’t change, I think I will always change the scented candle I am burning depending on the season! Oh and my coffee mug, yup i became that person and have different season mugs. The joy, always doing what brings the joy!

Happy Fall Everyone!
